In FrankfurtRheinMain, numerous sports clubs invite you to join in – from football to ice hockey, there is something for everyone. At the same time, major sporting events such as marathons and cycle races attract thousands of people every year.
Membership in a club is an ideal way to meet new people with similar interests and settle into life in the region. There are many clubs in Germany and FrankfurtRheinMain, for example in nature conservation or culture. Sports clubs are particularly popular and widespread.
Sports Clubs
In FrankfurtRheinMain, as in the rest of Germany, football is one of the most popular sports. The German Football Association (DFB) is based in Frankfurt, and there are football clubs throughout the country. But there is also a wide range of other sports on offer – from ice hockey to equestrian sports, from rowing clubs to climbing halls, there are many leisure activities to choose from.
In principle, you can join any club of your choice; there is no aptitude test. Clubs are financed by membership fees and sponsorship. Membership fees in sports clubs are usually quite low.
If you are looking for a suitable sports club, you will find what you are looking for at a regional sports association, which is responsible for each federal state. The Hessian Regional Sports Association's website has a search engine that lets you find sports clubs by sport and/or location. Alternatively, you will usually find a list of all local clubs on the website of your municipality.
Sporting Events
There are regular major sporting events in FrankfurtRheinMain, such as the Ironman, the SkyRun MesseTurm and the classic Eschborn-Frankfurt cycle race, as well as competitions and championships in many other sports. During the summer months, there are also many smaller charity runs.
And if you prefer to get around on wheels, you can rollerblade through Frankfurt every Tuesday in summer: Tuesday Night Skating sees the streets closed off especially for inline skaters from across the region.
